Happy National Trucking Week
Happy National Trucking Week to the 400,000 Canadians tireless work for the industry.
These hard workers truly keep the Canadian economy moving. Over 72% of the nation’s 2014 freight was carried by for-hire trucks, according to the “Transportation in Canada 2015” Overview Report by Transport Canada. For-hire trucking traffic accounted for 276.2 billion tonne-kilometres, an increase of 9.9% compared to 2013. About 40% of that traffic involved international movement.
In 2015, the trucking traffic between Canada and the United States was valued at $410 billion, a 10.5% increase from 2014. Automotive products, machinery and electrical equipment, other manufactured products, and agricultural products led both exports and imports. At the end of 2015, there were 65,921 businesses in Canada whose primary activity was trucking.
In addition to recognize the large contribution made by the industry, National Trucking Week also serves to raise awareness about how to safely share the road with a truck.
Lots of people can be drivers; few can be truckers. Thank you for your commitment to the industry.
